Retractable Pergola Awning

The Brief
Our client in Blackpool was looking for an effective overhead sun shading solution for their outdoor seating area. A key requirement was not only to provide comfort during peak daylight hours, but also to address the low late afternoon sun, which would still impact the space once the retractable pergola awning was no longer providing direct coverage.
They also wanted a clean, open feel when the system was not in use, along with a solution that could be self-installed to help manage overall project costs.
Our Solution
We supplied one of our Retractable Pergola Awning systems, designed to provide flexible overhead shading with a simple and effective support setup.
In this case, the system was installed using a two-wire stainless steel tension support configuration, providing reliable structure while maintaining a minimal visual profile.
The client selected Soltis Horizon 86 Mesh in Champagne, paired with Sand binding. This high-performance mesh fabric delivers excellent UV protection while still allowing airflow and light transmission, helping to maintain a bright and comfortable outdoor environment.
To ensure a neat and consistent finish, scallop spacers were included to evenly distribute the fabric folds when retracted.
In addition to the main awning, the client also opted for a matching side panel in the same specification. This provided an effective solution for managing the lower angle afternoon sun, extending the usability and comfort of the space beyond the overhead shading alone.
This installation was completed as a self-installation, with the client using our supplied measurement forms and installation guidance throughout the process.
