THE BRIEF
We were approached by Rosie Nottage Garden Design during the early planning stages of this beautiful garden project in Poyntington, Dorset.
The design featured a large timber pergola to create a stylish outdoor space for relaxing and entertaining. However, the original pergola design would have made installing our retractable pergola awnings difficult and wouldn’t have achieved the clean, seamless finish we wanted.
By getting involved before construction began, we could ensure the pergola and bespoke awnings were designed to work perfectly together.
OUR SOLUTION
Working closely with Rosie Nottage Garden Design, the timber pergola was adapted to accommodate our bespoke retractable awnings.
Rosie then supplied the final design drawings to both C&J and the carpentry firm. Using these drawings, we manufactured three made-to-measure pergola awnings while the timber structure was being built.
Once the pergola frame was installed, our team attended site to fit the trio of retractable awnings.
The three individual awnings complement the proportions of the large timber pergola beautifully. They provide generous shade across the outdoor living area while keeping the space light, open and connected to the garden.
Each awning can also be retracted when more sunshine is wanted, giving the clients complete flexibility throughout the warmer months.
This project is a great example of how early collaboration between garden designers, carpenters and specialist awning manufacturers can achieve the best possible result.
The finished pergola feels completely considered, with the bespoke retractable awnings forming part of the original design rather than appearing as a later addition.
